The Alaska Airlines Classic championship game ended up being the highest-scoring game of the three-day tournament at West High.
Planet Athlete, a team from Phoenix, held on to beat East 94-89 and claim the crown.
Jachai Taylor of Planet Athlete earned tournament MVP honors after scoring 21 points and shooting 71 percent from the field in the championship.
Taylor added nine rebounds and four other Planet Athlete players scored in double figures.
Moses Miller kept East in the game, scoring 39 points on 61 percent shooting. He went 5 of 10 from the 3-point line.
Alec Canete-Hall (18 points) and Marquis White (18) also scored in double digits for the Thunderbirds.
Planet Athlete led by eight points after the first quarter, but East bounced back in the second quarter to go into halftime down 50-47 and stuck around until the final buzzer.
Miller’s 39 points is the second most scored in a Classic game and the most since Joshua Hampton of East Hall (GA) had 39 in 2012. Two-time Classic MVP Trajan Langdon of East also had 39 in 1992.
The tournament record is 49, set a day earlier by West’s Da’Zhon Wyche of West.
